Coping in today's political climate

My mate and I recently took a 4 week vacation. While I was trepidatious to be away from my practice (and our sweet pup) that long, we were both looking forward to escaping the constant news of the party shenanigans.

Well, not so easy.  America is, unfortunately, the talk of the world, and not in a good way. We were greeted kindly in all 3 countries we visited, but many people we met had questions and suggestions for us. We tried very much to disconnect...not so easy when your home country is on the attack of nearly every other country in the world.

Regardless, it was interesting to hear the opinions of those outside our borders. We could learn A LOT!.

But, life goes on around us, and we must all find our own coping mechanisms.

Go forth and prosper!

There will always be opinions from other countries, good, bad or indifferent. Thst is life in these modern days of instant communication.

I find it crucial to hear the perspective of others here and abroad. If my beliefs don't hold up in the face of another point of view, then I have to wonder why that is. I find that those who would silence or quickly dismiss others' perspectives are the ones who are the least secure in theirs. And it's pretty easy to tell where people are scrolling these days. Thanks for sharing.

Similar experience last September while in Italy. People asking my wife and I about our thoughts on the “then” upcoming election and sharing their views on how it will impact them. The last thing I want to discuss on my honeymoon. I was shocked they cared. I wondered, really, how much of an impact the U.S. has on them. But my take away was it wasn’t just about their world, but how both of our worlds can be effected by the political trajectory.
