Traveling Anytime Soon?

I have to admit, the cold has me thinking about traveling.  In truth, I don’t really mind the cold weather as long as it is in moderation.  Extended stretches are not my favorite thing.

These days my travel has been more often visiting my children than planning an exotic visit somewhere.  And to set the tone, I have no regrets.  Both of my children live in interesting parts of the country with much to see and explore.  And of course, it brings the added benefit of family time.

I refer you to our trip to visit my daughter in northern California last year that included some Sonoma touring and more.  That was special. I expect we will visit again this year.  And southern Virginia, where my son is living and working, is just beautiful country, right there on the James River.

All of that said, I think I want to start planning a bigger trip and I am asking for your advice.  Gotham, what was your favorite trip and why?

I enjoyed exploring Kauai, where my brother lives and then the islands of Hawaii. Lots of beauty

I really loved Hawaii. If you're looking for an even bigger trip for just you and Bill then South Africa would be my choice. Cape town and Kruger National Park were just amazing. If you want to go with the kids then I would suggest Costa Rica, so much to do or, if you prefer, just relax and enjoy the sunshine.

By far my favorite trip was Italy in 2024 for our honeymoon, but locally I've truly enjoyed our past Summer/Autumn weekend get-a-ways in the New England area. Bar Harbor, Maine; Burlington, VT; Portsmouth, NH; and Salem, MA did not disappoint! Great food and relaxing vibes to step-outside into nature that are drivable within a day.

Back in the day my favorite place to go was NYC. It's still my favorite City to "get lost in." I've enjoyed traveling around the country for short trips.
Like you my traveling is to see the kids - fortunately they live in good places. Still, 4-6 days does it for me. I did do longer trips back in the day. Loved Mexico and the Caribbean, loved touring France and Italy. No interest in doing any of those things again.
I think the key to traveling is to decide what it is you want to do - sightsee, beach sitting, adventure, etc - and find the best place to do it.

We have had 2 favorite trips....1) Turkey, most amazing history and sights. 2) our more recent Greece / Barcelona trip. The architecture is incomparable! But like ypu said, as long as the destination has family included, be it the larger family, or just you and Bill, that is the most important memories! Bon Voyage, my friend, wherever your journey takes you.
