You Decide

Ralph Waldo Emerson is quoted as saying, "The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be."

These words remind me that destiny is not a prewritten script, like some believe, but a path shaped by our choices, actions, and resolve.

It’s easy to feel swept up by forces that seem out of our control — societal expectations, past mistakes, or the fear of change. But Emerson’s insight empowers us. Our lives need not be bound by circumstances but by the decisions we make every single day.

No matter how small each decision we make, it moves us toward the person we will be. It may not always be easy, but the beauty lies in knowing that the power to change rests within you.

So, who will you decide to be today? Destiny isn’t waiting for you — it’s waiting on you.

Reminds me of advice I often give my clients, "You cannot control the way someone else behaves, you can only control your reaction to their behavior." My former father-in-law gave me that advice in 1997 when I was going through my divorce. His words have stuck with me all that time.
