Cold temps not for me anymore

So last week I had the pleasure of traveling to NY to attend the Gotham Holiday Party as well as my work holiday gathering and seeing a few close friends for dinner. Of course, I also got to visit several customers and prospects, since the bills aren’t disappearing by themselves.

I normally don’t really focus on the weather too much, but this trip had me in for some unpleasant experiences. My 2nd day in, the skies opened and drenched anyone outside. I of course left my umbrella in my car before parking to take the train to the city. Wet coming, going and in between around the city. I had parked about 5 blocks from the train station in Valley Stream where I had been staying and the walk to the car was particularly nasty, wet and cold as the sun was down when I got off the train.

The next day the temps dipped below freezing. I felt this in my bones when I got out of the car driving around Brooklyn. The Air B and B I was staying at had marginal heat and I had no control to raise it up to a more desirable temperature. I did not pack warm enough for that, so it was a tough night. My last day in NY, I woke to 28 degrees. I had to run some errands, visited some clients and closed a deal (thankfully) to end the trip on a high note. But the cold kept me realizing how much I no longer can tolerate it after being in Florida for just over three years. Did my blood thin out finally, perhaps. I have heard three years is about what it takes. I just didn’t like the mix of wet followed by cold. It was a bit too much for this warm-blooded being.

How do you like your cold weather? Fred, Key West is just a few weeks away, paradise for sure at this time of the year.

LOL Having survived Michigan winters and after living in FL several times, I noticed that people become acclimated pretty quickly to their environment. I always preferred the heat of FL to the winters in Michigan. But once I started running outside all year, I got used to extreme weather and don't mind it. I've never learned to appreciate rain though - especially winter rain.

Sorry/Not Sorry to dump more Cold Water on this post but....

1) You could have bought a second umbrella in NY for about 7 bucks.
2) Be glad you are not homeless/unhoused/or in a wheelchair
3) Weather is Weather, Whether you like it or not

I am from San Francisco so I assume that rain and fog are good for moisturizing my skin and always bring an extra pair of socks in your pocket. Good luck you who are not prepared for Climate Change! All weather will be Chaos from now on.

In past years, street vendors came out and sold umbrellas. I did not see a single one walking 7 blocks on Lexington Ave in Midtown, not did I see any stores thst were selling any between 47th an 39tjh streets. I feel for the homeless and thst is why there are shelters for those in need. I learned my lesson and will pack better in the future.

Ahhhh....Lexington Avenue! Too gentrified, I guess. Probably have to duck into a hotel lobby. Lots of street vendors near Times Square and along Fifth Ave.
We can talk about "shelters" another time but (briefly - for me who doesn't understand brevity) there are limited hours in most shelters as usually they are only open for sleep at night.

For the future, you can find umbrellas at any CVS or Wallgreens sand just about any souvenir shop and most Hudson News Stands in Penn Station and Grand Central. Enjoy the wecoming temps of the Sunshine State.
