The Social Media Debate Heats Up

Tech News

This past week, Australia became the first country to enact a social media ban for anyone under the age of 16.  The bill is aimed at safeguarding the mental health of young people but critics ask how can its terms possibly be enforced?  Social media platforms must verify the age of their users.  How will that happen?

Apparently, some platforms might be exempt as educational.  How will that be determined?

Tech giants we all know will face huge fines for non-compliance.

Lots of questions and certainly a development to follow.

I can see the benifit, but enforcement will be the challenge. Curious to see how this plays out.

Absolutely the right move. It will be interesting to watch as it develops. Great blog topic.

Most interesting decision for sure. How to you tell the 10-15yo to now Get Off the web?

I agree with it. Social media and smart phones in general are destroying the younger generations. You cant drive a car unitl a certian age, perhaps this should be the same. I know some of the gambling websites require you to submit a picture when you register as an additional layer of proff of age, perhaps they will do the same.
