Halloween

Last year this time I blogged about a Halloween bash. Also last week it occurred to me review my Halloween playlist that I (finally) created last year. Turned out there was a song that belonged that I did not include then; so 40 tunes grew to 41. Since there are a few more days for those with children or grandchildren who might trick or treat, I share these Halloween Safety Tips:

► Make sure young children are accompanied by an adult or responsible teenager.

► Tell children to bring home all of their treats so they can be examined carefully before anything is eaten. Discard any candy or food with a peculiar smell or appearance.

► Do not allow children to "trick or treat" alone.

► Do not allow children to wander far from home.

► Do not permit children to enter buildings or elevators on their own.

► Tell children to avoid hallways or deserted areas that are dimly lit.

► Tell children not to enter a stranger's home or car for the promise of treats.

► Remind children to obey the rules at traffic lights and to walk on the sidewalk, not in the street.

► Examine all costumes for safety hazards, such as a long costume that could trip a child.

► Help children choose flame retardant costumes in bright colors or carry a flashlight so that children can be seen by approaching cars.

► Examine masks to be sure a child's vision is unobstructed.

► Test makeup on a small patch of skin before applying it to a child's face to make sure that he or she is not allergic.

► Give children flashlights, not candles, to carry with them.

► Instruct children, if they need help, to look for "SAFE HA VEN" decals in houses and store windows.

p.s. Also find this my 41-song Halloween tunes playlist available in either Apple Music or YouTube.

This (very good) checklist is similar to what I teach people of all ages who are going out to "canvass" during elections.
Basic and truthful.
Thank you Corey.
PS The funny/not funny part is my spouse's closing remark: "You never know who has a Dungeon in their basement."

With my son Joe now 17, we no longer have family members participating. But our new Pup Luna may get into the spirit if my wife has her way.

Better safe than .... anything else.
Of course, he is kinda nutty. Locks the car doors when I am inside because "I don't want anyone to kidnap you!"
Extremely unlikely, in my case. (I once ejected a lawyer from a moving cab in NYC because he made a pass at me.)
