The Concept of Nothing

Categories
Lifestyle

I was having trouble thinking of a blog topic this week. Nothing came to mind. Then I started to think about the concept of nothing.

In a world constantly buzzing with information, sometimes the most refreshing thing is. . .  nothing. Nothing doesn’t demand attention or push for productivity. It simply exists, waiting for you to notice its quiet presence.

When was the last time you allowed yourself to do nothing? No tasks, no screens, no distractions—just letting your mind wander?

When training our Canine Companions puppies, one of the things they need to learn is informally called the "Do Nothing" command. They should lay down on the floor or their dog bed (say while I'm working) or under a chair if in a restaurant and "do nothing". A lesson for me as well and something I should do more often myself (though not under a chair).

Great topic Rona! I try to set aside time each day to do nothing . Turning off the chattering mind in the form of mindless silence can be one of the most health-enhancing practices one can do. It recharges one's batteries, oxygenates the body, provides a needed rest-stop and elevates T-cells and other immune-defense co-factors.

I think this is the best blog ever written. I recently started walking in the morning. At first, I always walked with my headset so I could listen to a podcast or music. Recently, I have stopped doing that and just walk with my thoughts. Without intention, I am finding my best thinking and problem solving on those walks.
