Traveling Fears in the face...

I am struck with more than the usual traveling fears.  My fears normally center around my clients being taken care of? Missing a deadline while out of the office for an extended time. Are my employees overworked trying to cover for me?  How is my 100.9 year old mother-in-law going to fare while we are gone?  The normal white noise that all self employed people go through when leaving their 2nd home (aka the office).  But this time, Stew and I will be traveling under difference circumstances than we have for the past 4 years.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am excited and much in need of this time away, but traveling internationally for 14 days is daunting for more than the above reasons.  This time, we will be in Greece for 3 days (it is hot as hades there right now, and tourist are dying from heat exhaustion), then on a BIG boat for 7 days (dare I say Petri dish?) and finishing off in Barcelona, where the natives are restless and "attacking" tourists with water guns (might not be so bad since it will also be hotter than hell there too).   But it is the middle part, on the boat, that has me most concerned.  We have heard way too many stories, many from our good friends and fellow Gothamites, about contracting COVID while on a cruise.  I have always been cautious, but over the past couple of years I have not been fanatic about wearing a mask in most situations.  But this new wave of COVID has me worried.

Soooooo...my question to all of you good people out there in Gotham land is...  Any great preventative, maybe holistic measures I can employ prior to embarking to possibly decrease my odds of attracting some horrible sickness while away?    And if you are not well familiar with me and my HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE, ROTTEN travel luck, please just ask Stewart - he will be happy to fill you in.

So, suggestions welcome to ease my concern just 1 short week prior to our adventure!

Bon Voyage

There's plenty to be concerned about and so you have two choices ... actually three. You can let go of the concerns, take on a positive attitude, and control what you can control You can let the concerns steal your joy and head into the trip filled with angst. Or you can stay home. You get to pick.

Fred’s face mask idea may help in crowded spaces.

Whenever I travel like that (planes/cruises) I gear up with vitamin C (Emergen-C) packs. Echinacea with golden seal capsules also a super preventative.

As for nerves,

It's Greece. . . .Just keep focusing on that you will be in Greece and how incredible it will be. That's what I do to keep my mind off my incredible fear of flying.

Definitely Beware of the Heat!I Have extra water with you at all times, Please note that ice may be hard to come by so - if you are close to refrigeration at any point you should cool your water a bit. On the ship and some hotels you may be able to get ice to go.

Mask up in any confined space (museums, buses, taxis, etc.) and please do so in lavatories as well - flushing toilets spread all germs and viruses. Take extra masks in your luggage.

PS Re Fear of Flying: I used to be totally petrified. The best advice I received was to think of the plane as a Bus. Just a bunch of strangers rolling along. Also: I take a benedryl before boarding to help me sleep a bit of the flight away and keep my sinuses open to airflow.

Don’t want to jinx it, but have been on a number of cruises the past few years and thankfully, no Covid, so it can be done and remember it is that way for nearly everyone. We also take Emergen-C or Airborne for days leading up and throughout and always have hand sanitizer at the ready. We are also those crazy people with the Clorox wipes who wipe everything down at our seat on the plane as that always concerns us more than the ship. Keep in mind the words of Tom Petty – “most things I worry about never happen anyway”. Enjoy your trip.

I have NO fear of flying, just horrible luck with cancelations and connections, diverted planes, lost luggage...those type of things.

No nerves of flying or being on the boat other than the germ issue - so thank you

Masks (to conceal identity) will be illegal in some states.
