Our New New Bed

Categories
Lifestyle

Recently we bought a new mattress. The process was a complex one during which we were tested and we tested many mattress options.

Price aside (inflation is real), it was a complicated trial and error process. Eventually we decided on a thick pillow top mattress with new (full) box springs.

Then it happened, our new bed was delivered and assembled and, glory be, it stacked up so high that we nearly needed a step stool to mount it. What's more, the pillow top layer made tossing and turning even more difficult and challenging.

Me being me, I tried to adapt to the new daunting conditions, all the while fearing a longer potential fall out of bed.

Jo being Jo, declared, on first impression, that she was free of back pain, but little by little complaints seeped out and soon she declared we needed a new new mattress.

Back we went to the mattress place and, inflation be damned, we found a new new non pillow top mattress and shorter box springs.

We have tried out our new new bed and, so far, all is well and there is no longer any danger of altitude sickness :)

It is a daunting task that involves a lot of time at stores. Then actual time with real sleep. It often takes two tries to get it right

You spend a third of your lifetime in bed. It’s one of those things that you have to be really happy with and pay a lot for.

We used double futons for decades and recently return to conventional mattress. I knew after sleeping on those new pillow tops and the big box spring that an old fashioned hard mattress would be just fine. And the one we chose was not as expensive as the fancy ones. However, it certainly caused a bit of sticker shock.

Oh yes …… the bed nightmare. I have returned several mattresses in my life. I finally ended up with a sleep number- with several different kinds of mattress toppers. - which I change every so often. I’m definitely the Princess a the Pea :0) It’s a tough challenge . At this stage in our lives- we have to get it right. Good luck with the new one.

It’s good to know that I am not the only one with sleep issues and mattress problems. Wish you good night sleep in your new new mattress. Missed you at our meeting yesterday.

I find mattress shopping to be THE WORST experience. I know some companies have a try for 60 day option, but still, that is not ideal unless you are going to store your old mattress somewhere in case the new one needs to be returned. I have said for a long time that they should have a "weekend" house where you can try out a mattress for a few days before buying it@!

There was probably a pea under the old one which is why Joanne had a problem

We bought a Sleep Number bed almost 20 years ago and still love it.

This reinforces my current stance that I can continue with my old mattress a little longer. I'm tempted by some of these new mattresses, but I could buy a good used car for less.
