VD at the Zoo

Did you continue a tradition for celebrating Valentine’s Day?
The other day the New York Times reported on an alternate Valentine’s Day tradition. The San Antonio Zoo runs a fundraiser in which you can symbolically name a roach or rodent that would be fed to one of the zoo’s animals. The opportunity to acknowledge someone on Valentine’s Day to whom you certainly wouldn’t be sending flowers or a card.
In the days leading up to Valentine’s Day we grapple with the traditions and expectations.
And the San Antonio Zoo offers yet another.

From the title, I was thinking about some sexually transmited disease at the zoo. I think the zoo's idea is interesting, but a bit disturbing as well.

It's not just San Antonio. The Bronx Zoo was running a similar fundraiser where for a $15 donation you could name a Madagascar hissing cockroach. They send you a nice digital certificate to commemorate the naming. If I were going to name an animal for V-Day, I'm pretty sure my wife would prefer it not be a roach, so I stuck to the traditional this year.
