As the wheel turns

I awoke yesterday morning at about 7:15AM to a blanket of white and the sounds of snow throwers...another suburban moment.

I threw on jeans, T-shirt, heavy socks, a hoodie, ski jacket and boots. Got my gloves and trundled down into the garage to fire up my snow thrower and join the fun. After trying to start it by hand a couple of times I plugged it in and pressed the button for the electric starter. Within a couple of minutes it rumbled to life.

As I started to plow the driveway the wind shifted right in the middle and I received a facefull of snow and my forehead froze. This felt just like Buffalo...high winds, small snow flakes and biting cold.

A couple of hours later I was finished and back in my warm house sipping some hot tea in front of the fireplace. Our first blizzard of the year.

I shoveled a "crop circle" on the lawn for Charcoal.

If Mitch thought this was like Buffalo, what an insult to Buffalo…We don't even count snow accumulation in Buffalo until it passes a foot. Anything less is considered "flurries"…When I first moved to NYC from Buffalo ten years ago, I thought I'd landed in Miami.

Lol. My snow blower never seemed to clear the snow enough that it didn't result in using a shovel. Eventually I got rid of it. Shovel in hand, I dug us out myself. After that I didn't have to go to the gym. Thank goodness for weight classes. I can flex muscles and they pay off when shoveling snow.

I still use the shovel. Knowing no hoops this weekend, it provided a substitute workout of sorts. True I enjoy less area to shovel but I learned along ago to systemize it; also I actually shoveled after the good Knicks game and post game so a bit less the next morning. I cleared Shelly's car then. Mine waited until early eve after time on this device and several calls; politics calls....
BTW did anyone see the article on the Mayor's son's friends Facebook messaging Dante to lobby for school closing and the mom posting what Dante would be doing if (when) he got the day off? Priceless.

...and just to clarify...the snowflakes in Buffalo are smaller than the snowflakes on Long Island??? Is this a result of being further from the equator? ;)

I love my snow blower! The key is to invest in a good high quality machine. You have to be nuts to shovel snow if you are over 40. There is no amount of money that is worth throwing your back out and every year, quite a number of people drop dead from heart attacks from shoveling snow.
