Rocking Chairs

Rocking chairs belong in baby nurseries.

I hadn't given this much thought until last weekend when we were baby-sitting for our grandson Jackson and he needed to take a nap. It wouldn't have happened without the rocking chair in his room.

As I sat holding Jackson and rocked, I was soothed with memories of rocking my children in the rocking chairs in their bedrooms so many years ago.

We donated a rocking chair to the NICU at North Shore LIJ after our son spent two weeks there after he was born right around 9-11. The rocking chair in my son's room was one of my fondest memories of him as a baby

My father sent me a rocking chair when I was pregnant...he died when my son, Robbie was 3. Everytime I look at that rocking chair, it is bittersweet - I am reminded of rocking my baby, now grown up and of my father...

We did not have a rocker but we enjoyed a old-style carriage which of course can rock. I recall taking the wheels off the baby carriage after it was no longer used for my brother 26 months younger than me and building a go-cart. No recollection of where I got the wood.
