The Gotham Touch

Part of what we hope Gotham does best is to provide a forum to build relationships from which we know great things follow. As a result, we are rolling out a new program for 2014, “The Gotham Touch”.

We will actively encourage our members to get together with one another between regular meetings. Any type of connection is great, a phone call, lunch, or even just an email. Meetings can then have a “Gotham Touch” segment where everyone will report on their connections from last time.

Our thought is that there is no substitute for spending time together and getting to know people. LinkedIn and Facebook are great but a personal touch is well, special.

Fred and I had a very enjoyable lunch today with Gothamite Michael Zeldes just to catch up. Michael makes a point of having lunch with us from time to time. Made me think that this was our kick off, of sorts, for the Gotham Touch program.

Anyone have a Gotham Touch they would like to share?

A Friars drink last night with Jeff Citrin during which we discussed possible Albany and Staten Island Groups and I forgot to raise Washington. :)

I make it a point to send a welcome email to each new member whenever I see an announcement. Those emails usually result in a one-on-one meeting. I also regularly get together with Gotham members for coffee/lunch/drinks etc. My average over the last few months was 3 get togethers a week.

Gotham percolates with new friends, new opportunities, new experiences and even new business. I point with pride to 12 years of Gothaming which includes a heavy dose of one-on-one meetings; meeting new friends on fredslist and email chats with those I have yet to meet. The Gotham touch is essential because every time you reach out, you reinforce the bonds & the spirit of Gotham. This includes intros to other Gothamites, outside Gothamites AND inviting others to visit and join the tribe.
P;us, the good will and valued contacts are just plain good for health.

I had a Gotham Touch moment today with Liz Saldana.

Liz is how I got to Gotham. Today, however, we met to have coffee and talk about Gotham, its advantages and of course possible connections for each other.

In true Gotham style Liz was able to help me clarify a new program that I was thinking offering and who in Gotham could most benefit from it (promo next week to announce it) - but without that Gotham Touch moment, I would not have this new program, it would still just be a fleeting thought on my part, not an actionable item.

Everyday offers an opportunity for this Gothamite to experience the "Touch" -- it can be planned or on the spot. Coffee after a meeting as Bob O and I enjoyed after the GC meeting this past week, lunch with Vik Rajan after my CLC meeting, introducing a young
Pro around at a political dinner, a lunch on Monday (not every time should we drop a name). Let's just call it a sound approach to developing and strengthening relations.
