The NCAA just pulled back on some of the punishments it imposed on Penn St University resulting from the Jerry Sanduskey scandal.  Already, there are opinions forming on both sides.  Some say reducing the sanctions are wroong, others have gone so far as to say that the sanctions were overly inflicting and that the roll-back should actually come with an apology.

I believe that since everyone involved in the scandal is no longer there and having seen the way the team and the school have come together in the wake of the tragedy, I believe that it is simply an action of decency and compassion.

The complete destruction of a school and program that has been a cherished part of hundreds of thousands of people's lives for generations is something that should be considered carefully.

Any thoughts?

It can only help the current students, many of which were looking forward to attending Penn State due to its athletic program.

As the purge is complete it seems reasonable to not punish the next generation for the crimes of the parents. But I am less than clear that the university has made amends in other ways like contributing to youth groups and agencies that raise awareness and protect those in danger. Other than that I would say let them Play.

It remains important to change the culture and that includes people who looked the other way and perhaps messed up when it came to fiduciary duties they took on willingly. But the team plays a foot schedule so plenty of opportunity exists for those that aspire to the pro game to get noticed:
2013 Penn State Football Schedule:
Aug. 31 vs. Syracuse (at New Meadowlands Stadium) W 23-17
Sept. 7 - EASTERN MICHIGAN W 45-7
Sept. 14 - CENTRAL FLORIDA L 34-31
Sept. 21 - KENT STATE W 34-0
Oct. 5 at Indiana
Oct. 12 - MICHIGAN
Oct. 26 at Ohio State
Nov. 2 - ILLINOIS
Nov. 9 at Minnesota
Nov. 16 - PURDUE
Nov. 23 - NEBRASKA
Nov. 30 at Wisconsin
