Likely A Repeat

We have been blogging for years, seven if I am correct. I suspect that my thoughts tonight have already been reflected in a prior year’s blog. That said, I am risking a “repeat” because when you all read this, it will be the first day of school. That may not be true in all school districts, but it is in ours out here in Nassau County on LI. This “night before school” is a little melancholy for me as it is the first day of two lasts.

My oldest starts her senior year in high school tomorrow. This time next year, I will undoubtedly be seeking Rona’s advice about how to get through sending her off to college – particularly since Rona has now done this four times.

And my youngest starts his last year in middle school tomorrow. This time next year we will be readying for his first day of high school, an eventuality which is hard for me to comprehend.

Someone (probably my mother) told me many years ago to pay attention to every minute of every day because they move so quickly. I have always tried to listen to that advice. But I have to say, looking backwards from today’s vantage point, I am not sure that I have always succeeded.

Wishing my children, and all of yours, a successful and rewarding school year filled with much learning and fun.

Sending them to college still isn't easy. As for the first day of school, it's so weird not to be involved in the school district anymore, especially since I was a PTA president. But, on the positive side, so nice not to have to figure out when to go to Staples to get the school supplies and try to avoid the line that wraps around the store.

In our district in Westchester, the first day of school starts next Monday, however the feelings are the same. With 2 in college I know how fast the years go and encourage parents to enjoy every moment. My "baby" will be starting High School and I know in the blink of an eye, we will be looking at colleges. My advice is to make every school play, every recital, soccer, little league or Lacrosse game that you can. They are the magic moments of life.

Not sure why I'm shocked today is here...already!

Good luck to all of us :)

I always liked the first day of school (from a parent's perspective:)

My first day in Roslyn High School was in 7th grade. A very tough transition back in the day

School starts tomorrow in NYC, however, some staff, including Mrs. B, started the same day as LI schools. The early start of college classes -- pre Labor Day -- has been more of an impact in my household. Though no more getting Marisa off to SUNY Purchase, Jonathan still deals with his Graduate studies. And this year, he added teaching duties (I believe labs on Quantitative Research) and it seems to a rather busy time for him.....
