Christmas cards in August?

As June 21st roll around I have commented that the days are getting shorter and that winter is coming.  It is not a welcome thought as summer is just getting underway and winter is not really coming and who wants to think about that.

But here it is, still August, still summer, and the mail brought two unwelcome reminders.  First came the first SKI magazine of the season, full of all the new rated skis and boots.  I am not in the market for new skis or boots this year.   Then yesterday the mail brought a packet from the American Diabetes Association.   On the outside it said "Your FREE 2013 holiday card collection enclosed!" and had a picture of a Christmas stocking stuffed with wrapped presents.

The SKI magazine I can take, but this was too much.  Christmas ads seem to creep up every year earlier and earlier in November, but this is August.  It is in the high 70's.  We were at the beach yesterday.   I am not ready to see pictures of stockings or holiday cards.  I can't even bring myself to open it.  Really, who needs to have their holiday cards by August?

It is quite challenging, but I try to live in the moment and enjoy each day as it comes so I utilize the recycling bin for anything that spoils my fun. It seems to work since most bills are handled online these days!

Charities chase the cash earlier and earlier. Labor sort of signals the end of summer as in pool club is closed but as long as we can enjoy the deck....
