Ladies Lunch

I took last Friday off and went to lunch with Joanne. Rather than going to our regular haunts we tried to be creative and she suggested that we have lunch on the top floor of Lord & Taylor in Manhasset on the "miracle mile".

As we entered the store my mind flashed back some 60 years to the time that my mother brought me there to buy my treasured Hopalong Cassidy suit, complete with chaps and Sixshooter.

When we got to the restaurant the receptionist guided us to a table in the corner, but I insisted upon sitting by the window overlooking the parking lot and the rest of the miracle mile.

The menu was a very feminine bowl of soup, half a sandwich, cold drink and a cup of yogurt. Being that my mindset was that I was going to a "ladies" lunch I readily agreed to the menu choices.

Once we had ordered I scanned the room and realized it truly was a "ladies" lunch, because there were only three men, including myself, in the entire room which was populated by many many ladies.

To top it off, I looked out the window into the parking lot and spied Flo Feinberg, wife of fellow blogger and set up man Ben Geizhals, and shopper extraordinaire (owner of Refined Finds) getting out of her car in the parking lot.

My next move was to call Flo on her cell phone and say to her that there was a "rumor" that she was entering Lord & Taylor.

Needless to say, she was soon sitting with us at the table and my "ladies" lunch was perfectly complete!

Interesting things happen when you venture into different settings. Is this a variation of "what's up is down" ?

It's entirely possible that while you were lunching at L&T in Manhasset, some of us Gotham ladies were shopping at L&T in Garden City!

I was working; but heard rumors of Gotham Ladies shopping the NYC L&T. Maybe next time I'll join them.

And I assume you picked up the check. Or did .you charge them 45 dollars and donate it to the summer of giving? Ypu missed a chance to work the room and coolect

I just get to take my wife and her dad to breakfast.... or BBQ some steaks (when we have her dad, Shelly passes on the usual poultry...) -- as planned for tonight (steaks marinating 35 hours by grill time)

Adding on to Riva's comment I'm sure the odds were 100% that some of us were in the Lord and Taylor in Garden City at the same time. Did Joanne get any shopping done?

What exactly is the "miracle mile"? The only reference I have of it is a Billy Joel song.
Flo Feinberg

And of course I was reminded that "Big Brother" (in this case, Fred) is always watching...
who would think that while I was in my car searching for coupons I was being viewed from a perch in Sarabeth's ....this time the outcome was a lovely visit with Fred and Joanne!

Billy Joel's song references a strip of Northern Blvd in Manhasset with lots and lots of pricey stores

It's fun to enter an opposite world. It peaks your creativity. I have been in many circumstances where I am the "only" in a sea of others. It put things in perspective. When you stay in the 'hood, you see people from the hood. Someone please tell Lucas that he must experience The Miracle Mile while taking his wife shopping there, and, of course having the Ladies Lunch. I personally miss having this experience with BFF Janet Adler - although it was in the Flagship store.

Don't know when your next softball game is so if you need help in recovering, grab two beers, some buffalo wings and listen to this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rp6-wG5LLqE

Miracle Mile ? Lord and Taylor ? Joanne ! I would never have guessed !! When I was young (13) I joined Vic Tanny's in Miracle Mile. I started lifting weights about 25 years later. I joined because the receptionist's legs made me quiver with desire...She was a red head (not my type) but man oh man those gams. So I would ride my bike a long, long way from Norgate through Roslyn Estates past Madolin's on Hickory Hill under the pretense of working out at Vic Tanny's. Things haven't changed much for me since although I try to keep it in check...The only Chinese restaurant in the world (including China) that my dad would eat in was Bruce Ho's in Miracle Mile...Right next to Vic Tanny's !!! I think he might have been doing that receptionist and feasting at Bruce Ho's afterwards (they both had red hair). In any case it brings back memories. I got to know the pastry chef (don't ask) at Patricia Murphey's aka The Candlelight Inn across the street and feasted on those great Popovers....So let's hear it for Miracle Mile and Manero's restaurant where Al, Bob and myself would consume TONS of beef and Gorgonzola cheese....Fred...Once again you churn my memory bank....!!

Hollander Sends !!
