Last week, I lamented the lack of free (and low cost) shows this summer. This, by no means, indicate a lack of quality shows to attend; it just means parting with many, many pennies to access them. My intended lineup of summer shows remains in flux. But, a schedule of sorts appears to show some promise.

Vacation plans may impact the ability to catch some great shows.

In one case, I continue to mull which of three shows I want to attend. Friends made a case for one, and the muse for Friday’s blogger wrote a recent commentary touting that performer. Still, a tough choice remains.

If we allow things to kick off last month, the Richie Furay 75thBirthday concert we attended on May 18 started things just fine. For purists, since Memorial Day weekend signals the traditional start of summer, the Savoy Brown show the following week at My Father’s Place plays fine.

Net weekend, we look forward to the 2019 incarnation of the Happy Together (hence the title of this blog) tour; this year’s iteration includes the Turtles featuring Flo & Eddie – of course), Chuck Negron (of 3 Dog Night), Gary Puckett (The Union Gap), The Classics, and The Buckinghams (I still have all their 45s! (Can you name all their hits?).

Still trying to look at what might work next month but 4-5 concerts remain in play.

Some special faves set the stage for a Hot August – Musically so! – John Fogerty’s 50 Year Trip at Radio City and Squeeze at the Rooftop at Pier 17.

September features Peter Frampton’s real Farewell Tour at Madison Square Garden, King Crimson’s 50thAnniversary show, and ‘Something Great From ’68 – Brian Wilson with Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin and The Zombies (featuring Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent). Very big on history this year.

How do your summer concert plans play out (so far)?

Friends who moved to Vegas several yeas ago bequeathed a similar Juke device to other friends before I had any chance to claim it. And
Btw several shows on the consideration list are proximate to your abode.

Nothing as adventurous as your plans. I plan to see 311 and the Dirty Heads at Jones Beach in July. Miss going to shows.

Just saw Milagro (Santana tribute), Four Way Street (CSNY tribute), and Uppercut (Blood, Sweat & Tears tribute), yesterday at The Woodstock Revival in Old Bethpage Restoration. Next up is Dead & Company on 6/23. The balance of the summer will be free shows at Maliblue, SALT on Cedar Beach and whoever is playing at our local watering hole KJ Farrell’s in Bellmore. Shows have gotten way too expensive and we prefer smaller venues like Iridium in NYC and MFP in Roslyn.

Those "real" farewell tours always get to me. We went to great trouble and expense to book Billy Joel's Last Play at Shea. Then he opened up a another show the next night, which included a visit by Paul McCarthy and made our date the Second to Last Play at Shea. I was really annoyed for a long time and initially refused to go see him when he started his residency at the Garden. But my husband bought tickets for us and I got back together with Billy. :)

At MFP a # of interesting shows even if acts do not fop your list.

Go Corey! However your summer unfolds, it will be filled with fun, laughter and the company of family & good friends and...for sure...some of your favorite music. By contrast, mine will be very tame. Just saw Rocketman. (does that count?). Maybe some Birdland & Jazz at Lincoln Center. Perlman Camp at Shelter Island. Outdoor Brazilian at Montauk. Enjoy!

Rocketman features ALL of my fave Elton songs. Especially pleased it includes Amoreena. It’s a complicated movie as explained in a review I read explaining its inaccuracies which ONLY matter if you’d know it’s wrong on the spot (which I’d know, including a guitarist at the Troubadour show where he appeared as a trio with Nigel Olson and Dee Murray.).
Victoria Drogin

Lol. Rona.... I feel your pain on that!
I think we have the Stones and Cage the Elephant tee’d up. But I have to check with Paul. He’s our cruise director on all things concert related. Along Kelly’s lines, we did watch Madonna in Evita recently. Excellent historically and musically. And Rocketman is on the list.

Never seem to make it to concerts which is why I love your blog so much keeps me updated

Not likely to be in town for Stones. Glad I was able to see them with Wyman in the band
Corey Bearak

recommend you catch a show. MFP is a nice venue nearby
Corey Bearak

There is a reason I sometime get seats under cover at that venue. I may not even make one show at Jones Beach this summer. Only interested in one, maybe two shows, but one of the two only one of the bands matter to me.
