Is This Yours?

It was one of those crazy commutes this morning. At every turn, something went wrong – and I had to be at a meeting at 10 am. I hate those pressure filled kind of mornings.

First, my line on the LIRR was pretty much just down. [Did you know that I hate the LIRR? Are you my Facebook friend? If so, you would know for sure.] After fixing that fiasco, with a special thanks to my husband who drove me across the island to a different line, the subway was delayed too.

I wasn’t just feeling my own stress. Every commuter around me felt it too.

But then as I was heading up the gargantuan flight of stairs at Fifth Avenue amidst a sea of other commuters, I saw a hand rise above the crowd from behind me holding an electronic device and then a small voice yelling “Is This Yours? Does This Belong to Anyone?”

The crowd kept moving. Really, there was no way to stop. And that hand holding the device moved with the sea of people. But then another voice yelled, “Hey, that’s mine!” which was met by a small applause by the crowd and some help to pass the device back to its rightful owner.

Thank you New York for reminding me what I love about this city even on a day when it would have been easy to forget.

I took the subway in the wrong direction and then crossed over to be able to get into car before my crowded station.

There are no people like New Yorkers. They are truly the best. No matter what the rest of the country may think. :)

Thanks for sharing. Your uplifting story reminds of who we really are underneath the layers of stress, disruption and and discord.

Nice round-up after the frustration of your earlier travel problems.
