The End of an Era

It took more than 8 1/2 hours but the fire at Notre Dame is finally out.

I’ve never been to Paris, but I’ve always wanted to go. A bucket list kind of thing. People who have visited speak with such excitement about the Cathedral of Notre Dame, its beauty and history and the amazing artwork.

The video coverage was horrifying. Through the scaffolding, the flames were whipping large and everywhere. I can’t imagine what being a Parisian must have been like while this was unfolding.

But even as of now, I’ve read that the city is already talking about restoring and rebuilding the Cathedral. While of course we support and applaud that sentiment, I can’t help but wonder whether the new version can really replace the history.

Will we ever know the true cause of the devastating fire?

I can't imagine the new version will replace the history. It will have its own history; and I'm touched by the commitment the French are showing to rebuild.

Irreplaceable. That’s the tragedy. You can try if that helps with the healing . The damage to our hearts and minds is permanent. All we have are memories . But isn’t that so true with a loss or a passing ? So for now we grieve . Our Lady is gone . But remains forever in our hearts . En attendant de nous revoir ma Dame !

Everything comes to an eventual end. I just wish I could have gotten to see it in person. It reminds all of why we should not put off what our passions drive us towards.

Very very sad.....and to Fred's point what was the cause??? history hard to replace.

Apparently the fire was caused by the construction crew. The shape of the spire, along with the heat created the perfect environment for heat to build and create a fire. Very, very sad.
