How Do We Change?

Categories

As I write this blog I am, once again, filled with incredible sadness over a senseless act of mass violence, this time in New Zealand. I am also struck by the political posturing that is already taking place on both sides of the aisle, with respect to issues such as gun control, restraints on rhetoric, and regulations on the use of social media.

Anyone who knows me well, knows where I stand politically as to these issues. So, this blog is not about politics. When I think about massive shootings in places such as a Pittsburgh synagogue, a night club in Orlando, a high school in Parkland, Sandy Hook elementary school, and a country music concert in Las Vegas, one horrible thought keeps coming to mind; it’s essentially about hate.

And the question I am really struggling with today is, how do you stop the hate?

Very large question. So many reasons behind it----

1949- You've Got to Be Carefully Taught" is a show tune from the 1949 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific.

South Pacific received scrutiny for its commentary regarding relationships between different races and ethnic groups. It is preceded by a line saying racism is "not born in you! It happens after you’re born..."

A very smart man once said "All you need is love" and he was gunned down. Very sad.
