Pass it On!

A 100 years from now very few of us today will still be functioning.  Yet, (hopefully) the World as we know it will continue to thrive, turn and ripen.

Just as 100 years ago few of us were alive.  Yet 1919 society, as it was, thrived and resonates still today.  A great example is the epic Babe Ruth trade that year from the Boston Red Sox to my Yankees.

Babe Ruth is even more famous today than in 1919.

True, in 1919 they did not have the internet or iPhones, but mothers, fathers, grand parents, teachers, mentors, role models and leaders lived, loved and passed it on.

Passed what on?

Passed on all our then accumulated knowledge, training, skills, tricks and experience to those coming up so that they too can live, love, thrive and pass it on.

Keep on keeping on!

Pass it on!

Long rides in the car with Dad created the perfect venue for long talks, full of life lessons. Now I pour as much information as humanly possible into that 19 year, redheaded man-child of mine. I wonder what he'd say I passed onto him....I think I'll ask.

Stories! My Grandfather's stories were the most outrageously hysterical, yet almost always taught us something. I still remember many of them. While we didn't have smart phones until well after my teen years; however we did have TV. That was something to turn off when people were talking.

My Father and Grandfather are with me everyday. Their wisdom and righteousness are qualities they had in abundance and I strive everyday to emulate them. They also had strength and courage and were pioneers in the creation of the State of Israel. I have no children- but there are many young people in my life, who I hope I am a good exa,ple for.

Values. I hope that I have and will continue to pass along the values, the history, and the beliefs that our family has always cherished. My daughters have both chosen to incorporate them into their lives in different ways but the core value beliefs remains strong in both of them. As I often tell them their grandparents and their father would be “kvelling”.

The beauty of the passed down story is the uniqueness in which it was told.

Like Marilyn, I believe and hope that my two daughters have “absorbed” what I’ve intentionally tried to share - as well as what I care about and have “passed on” unintentionally. I see Paul’s boys (whom I’ve known since they were babies) grow into fine young men, very much shaped and influenced by the fine man he is. Our shared values, our joy and love for life and each other, work ethic, value of true and authentic relationships - these are all things I hope we pass on to our kids.
Great to stop and think about this Fred. Thanks!

The world as we know it ? And who is WE ? YOU ? ME ? Camelot is dead Derf . Professional academia is gone . Professional journalism is gone . The Greatest Generation is gone . So tell me how the world as YOU know it will procreate ? The world as I knew it is no longer . The carefree days of the white picket fence and the fog man are behind us . Simplicity and peace are still within our grasp but they take more work than ever to obtain . Roll models ? Few and far between . And whose roll do they model ? Yours ? Mine ? I think maybe future and present anthropologists will keep well occupied figuring out where species Homo Sapien made the wrong turn . Or did we ? Charles Darwin please feel free to jump in any time . So yeah It’s the old rudderless ship again . Arewegonna save humanity from the graveyard spiral ? Ya think ? I sense a frenzy and an inertia we may not escape . Tradition is eroding . Change is happening at the speed of light . Humanity is lagging behind . Vampires are on the prowl Derf . Where are the super heroes this time ?
