Paula who?

Paula Deen, the infamous southern chef on the Food Network is continuing to make headlines. The publisher of her new cookbook is dumping plans to publish it. “Paula Deen’s New Testament: 250 Favorite Recipes, All Lightened Up,” due out in October was ranked No. 1 on Amazon. A bunch of her fans are buying her other books and leaving angry messages on the site in protest.

Deen ignited the controversy and subsequent problems when she admitted she had used the “n-word.” Even Walmart has summarily dropped her.

On her part, she released a YouTube video expressing her remorse and crying.

Of course Twiter has been buzzing. Bette Midler wrote a funny tweet..“The bad news is Paula Deen has dug quite a hole for herself. The good news is she’s planning to roast a pig in it.”

What do you think of her?

I read that the book publisher dropped her and the book won't be published. I wonder where she'll be in 6 months, whether she will be able to recreate herself like Martha Stewart.

And I have a question for the employment lawyers out there, Fred and Nancy, how does her lawyer let her answer such an open ended question as to whether she ever used the n word? Shouldn't it have been limited to the time in which the Plaintiff was in her employment?

If everyone is the U.S. was to lose their job because they used the "n" word in the past or present, we would have 99% unemployment and no professional sports leagues in this country.

Is Gotham going "soft"? This is an outrage...it affects many others than just Paula Deen. She admitted and apologized for her mistake. If her name were Paul Deen would this have even made the news? One disgruntled employee and an empire crumbles. I am a minority and of course don't condone the use of racial slurs, but I can tell you one thing, this incident alone will not even put a dent In bigotry and racism...nice try tho'. Cindy Somma

Shame on corporate America for firing her like that..especially since their total annihilation of her doesn't fit her crime. What she needed was to hire a crisis communications team three weeks ago. Surely they never would have allowed her to go on the Today show and blather like that.. But what a bunch on hypocrites these people are.... Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone...Amen! I am not a fan nor a detractor of Paula Deen. I am however concerned that a person brought up in a cultural style must be condemned for things done 20 years ago if I read the facts correctly. Why is it okay to go on national television spouting how a vice presidential candidate is a "Jew" but someone using the N word 20 some odd years ago is not. I found the constant reference to "Jew" just as degrading then as "Nigger' was and is now. I grew up in a family where the "N" word was used to reference black individuals. I never liked it. But it is what it was then. It didn't make it right but it was accepted in mainstream society. So why now should we damned an individual because her past indoctrinations came to bite her? Instead let's educate and rehabilitate. I don't see how destroying her accomplishes either.

I had to ask my wife who was Paula Deen. The choice of language was insensitive and dumb. Her rating were already in decline so perhaps that played a role. The interesting thing not discussed is how segmented cable TV is, much like radio and thus we face in many case limited mass audience rather than shows with broad appeal.
