Living With A Puppy

Categories
Baby Blogs

My son David and his family have a non allergic dog named Lucy. She's a schnoodle. When they go away she stays with us. It did not take long for us to love her (and her breed).

Because I'm allergic to dogs, we have not had one in many many years. However, Lucy broke through and as a result I agreed to Joanne's request that we get a puppy, as long as it too was a schnoodle. Soon we had this little black ball of fuzz and we named her Charcoal.

Don't get me wrong, it is not smooth sailing, as she has to be trained and walked at all hours. Despite our initial agreement that I would not have to do anything with respect to the puppy, I soon found myself walking her on the very early shift.

One of her puppy things is that she loves to chew on everything and I soon found myself wearing my storm boots in the kitchen where she reigns.

We have lived with her for more than 3 weeks now and she sure has made a good impression (even on me).  Look at the attached picture-she is so cute

I will make periodic updates as time passes.

Congrats on Charcoal she is adorable and all the poodle mixes are great dogs. I have two dogs and I can tell by the way you describe her that you have fallen in love.

We've not had a dog and in part, I want no responsibilities there and believe I'd have them. I rather like the empty next.

Sizzle and I both are joyous over Charcoal. Forever love comes with the pup...

Ah, the telling phrase ("where she reigns"). Doggies want YOU to reign and they'll follow you forever. Yes, even to the point of you walking through a doorway first. Dog training lessons a la Dana. CONGRATULATIONS on allowing a puppy to win your heart. GOOD WORK, JOANNE! WELCOME, CHARCOAL, YOU ARE REALLY A CUTIE!

Are you using a crate? With my first dog, I resisted it. But many trainers convince me, with my second dog, to do so. She's a 10 years old and still likes to sleep in her crate.

There is something about the faces of masters and their pets. Does this explain why Fred has not shaved his beard for the summer?

I am so happy that Joanne has another female in the house!! I have seen the tenderness and gentleness ooze from both of my sons after bringing our puppies home! & years later the love fest continues, daily.
Lot's of luck!! She's beautiful and does look a lot like Fred when he tans.

I'm very proud of you my friend ! You have crossed over into the world of the dog lover. My world. Today at 0530 hours I was IN the water with my two Labs. The Pacific was quiet and we swam with seals....These dogs would do ANYTHING for me. Unconditional love at it's finest. I admire their athleticism. Their beauty as athletes has no equal. I honor and respect their friendship and spend most of my waking hours cavorting the Northern California coast with them at my side. Living in the moment baby !! In the now !! Not thinking about tomorrow . Not thinking about yesterday. They will be 3 years old on Monday. They are littermates. Brother and sister. They save me from myself. Love that little girl Fred...Let her love you back....I'll be 69 in a few weeks. I've raised 7 kids and have 5 grandkids. I have a wife. My dogs are about my soul !! HOO YAH !!

How wonderful. Lucybis sooooooooo very adorable. Merryweather, our little rescue, is my constant companion. In fact she is curled up in a chair on our front porch taking a little nap while I work. Enjoy little Lucy. Her love back will keep you in smiles and at peace. Crating is good especially until you can trust her to be alone in the house with no accidents or behavior issues.
