The Opportunity

At first, I thought it was a weird request.  We were at an art show and a gallery owner we know, apologized and asked me to retrieve his phone that was charging in his booth which was about fifty feet away. He was pushing a stroller with the young child of his assistant who was attending the booth and explained that if he went back to the booth, the child would be upset to see her mother.
I got the phone.
As I handed the phone to him, he thanked me and I thanked him.
He looked surprised when I thanked him.
I explained that I was thanking him for the Opportunity. I explained that one should never be reluctant to ask because, while it could invite rejection, it gives the other person the opportunity to say “yes” and there is nothing better than  having the opportunity to say  “yes”.

Keeping recognizing those great opportunities. Inspiring.

Lovely, although I have been told by my some close dear friends that I need to learn to say "no". Judiciously, of course. However something such as the opportunity to help a friend or colleague in the way you described is something that would never generate a "no".

So glad you said YES and then explained it.

I think most say Yes, but often don't take the next step with the Thank you. Great!
