Pema Chodrn, Voting, Tigers

I am writing this blog on Tuesday afternoon, there is anecdotal reporting that the turnout is larger, which is a wonderful thing. The more who vote, the more we truly are governed "by the people, for the people."

So I have no idea what we will be waking up to.

A Blue Wave?

A Red Flood?

A Purple stream?

Whatever happens, We Are One and we'd best get used to it and act like it. No one gets out of here alive.

Strawberries

Here's a story from Pema Chodron, a particularly wise Buddhist Teacher, to remind of us of what is truly important:

“There is a story of a woman running away from tigers. She runs and runs and the tigers are getting closer and closer. When she comes to the edge of a cliff, she sees some vines there, so she climbs down and holds on to the vines. Looking down, she sees that there are tigers below her as well. She then notices that a mouse is gnawing away at the vine to which she is clinging. She also sees a beautiful little bunch of strawberries close to her, growing out of a clump of grass. She looks up and she looks down. She looks at the mouse. Then she just takes a strawberry, puts it in her mouth, and enjoys it thoroughly. Tigers above, tigers below. This is actually the predicament that we are always in, in terms of our birth and death. Each moment is just what it is. It might be the only moment of our life; it might be the only strawberry we’ll ever eat. We could get depressed about it, or we could finally appreciate it and delight in the preciousness of every single moment of our life.”

I'm constantly telling myself to be in the moment (and then it's gone)...

Victoria and I have a playful thing where I tell her to put down the phone and stop taking pictures or texting while we are driving through the beautiful country (which we do often). We always try to enjoy every precious moment of our lives. People die young and children move away.

I remember reading somewhere about interviews with extremely wealthy people in the twilight of their lives. They said they would trade it all for just a little more time with their good friends and family. Value every moment! Going to see Lucinda Williams tonight with great friends and the love of my life!

Thanks for a great post Cayce!

Wonderful, wonderful post Cayce. Thank you. Paul is right. And I am so blessed to share my life with someone who reminds me regularly of how good and joyful things are. Sometimes we all need to be reminded to be present to the beauty and opportunities of each moment. I read your post after taking the “long way” to work so I could enjoy the sun shining on all of the glowing foliage on the hutch. Imagine what life would be like if we all stopped to savor each minute. Thanks for the beautiful reminder! (Love Pema Chodron)

Thank you for such a thoughtful comment.
Now is all we have, best to enjoy it if possible.

When I see only tigers I actively look for the strawberries. I always find them and then the tigers seem less vicious.
Beautiful post Cayce! Let’s bring strawberries to the next MAD luncheon.

Wonderful post Cayce! It's a good reminder to look for the beauty in the moment and enjoy it.

Adding to Paul's comments, as a driver I do not always get to observe what the passengers can view and I enjoy such the rate moments I cede the driving.
my other thought was passing the strawberry to the mouse and extending one's life.....

You are an example of looking at the bright side.
