Shout Out!

Joanne and I are not world travelers, nevertheless, in an adventurous moment we decided we wanted to travel to Italy with our friends Ennid and David Berger and we planned a year ahead and decided upon Sorrento, Italy.

Laney Sachs and her company Ortensia Blu Italian Adventures helped us find a beautiful cliff side hotel in Sorrento, over looking fabled Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples (pictured).  What’s more, she helped us plan excursions to Pompeii, Capri and the Amalfi Drive along with providing congenial drivers and guides to make the going easy.  Everything exceeded our expectations and Laney made sure of this with frequent emails despite the 6 hour time difference.

We flew Air France and they are in a higher league than our domestic carriers.

Thanks to the Bergers, seasoned travelers, for their their enjoyable company and showing us the way every day.

It all added up to a most memorable (I have innumerable vivid photos to insure it) vacation which encourages us to venture forth next year.

Grazie fellow Gothamite Laney Sachs!

All the planning and not a word about it until you got there....

More import, you highlight the utility (aka benefits) of using and relying on the resources of our tribe.

We were surprised that the food wasn’t uniformly fabulous.

Wow!! I look forward to seeing some pictures. Perhaps the grape photo on Facebook were Italian grapes??

Thanks for you kind words Fred...It was my pleasure to work with you, Joanne, Ennid and David - I'm so glad you all had such a wonderful time! The power of Gotham...

Laney is wonderful! A Gotham treasure. She helped Victoria and I with a trip of a lifetime in that area last year. Perfect.

And she is a sweet and generous person to boot!

Agree!! Laney is amazing. She planned our trip to the Amalfi coast (Positano, Capri, Pompeii, etc.) wonderful all around!

How wonderful. Getting out of the usual and seeing the world is an invaluable gift.

Love to travel. Just not enough out of the country. Makes me want to go even more hearing about this.

Right up my power alley Derf ! So... Travel .... My wife and I were lucky to be part of the exponential expansion of world travel with the dawning of the jet age . A newly minted airline pilot fresh out of the Navy . Traveling the world in the 60's and beyond in brand new 4 engine jets . Across the pond we would say . We'd hit the streets of Naples and traveling in a group or a gaggle of beautiful young Flight Attendants we dove into the Neopolitan life style and frequented the bars of the Italian sailors in Porto Di Napoli. But we also hit up the cafe 's of Montparnasse and the pubs of London . Dined on schweinhaxe in Mainz . And ate Frango assado in the Alfama district of Lisbon . Cutting to the chase . I hate to travel now . Give me a home where the buffalo roam . The lines . TSA. Customs . Immigration . Hotels . Jet lag . Yuck . 50 years of it . Pizza under the Spanish Steps ? It was fun while it lasted . 8 hours on a jet at 41000 feet ? Done with it . Waking up at 2AM ? Done with it ! BUT ... Yeah I did it . I'm proud to be able to walk the streets of Marseilles at 2AM and still find an open bar . A Bellini at Harry's Bar in Venice . But oh Geeze that constant buzz called jet lag . On the 11 hour JFK - Tel Aviv leg I would hit the Mediterranean and swim to the jetty . 100 yards or so and sleep on the rocks til dinner . Usually in Haifa . Cardio was the only way to fight the Circadian Rythm Blues. Like I said ..... I did it . Drank with the Italian sailors , slurped my noodles in Osaka scored dope on Bogey Street in Singapore. And now . I'm done . Planning one more . For my 75th . All kids , All expenses paid . Destination unknown . Kathmandu ? Been there .

I loved Italy. With respect to the flight, I generally found that when you fly internationally, the level of service is always better. Even on Delta.
