Happy New Year

Last week I wrote about a wedding tradition that I was asked to be a part of. This week my mind is still on tradition. Today is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. For me and my family it is a day filled with tradition. When I was a child, my parents always had our family over for dinner on the evening of the first day of Rosh Hashanah. When my parents got older and my older brother got married, approximately twenty-five years ago, my brother took over the tradition of hosting Rosh Hashanah.

So, tonight, as we have for twenty-five years, my family, my sister’s family and my brother’s family will all gather at my brother’s house for Rosh Hashanah dinner. On the table will be challah, apples, and honey to signify a sweet new year. And I will smile, as I have had for twenty-five years, enjoying the company and comfort of my family.

What is your holiday tradition?

With family so distant or ill now, we have not had a dinner in years. I think maybe its time to start a new tradition with what we have. Thanks for this blog.
