Statistics Hit Home

We are all exposed to statistics all the time. Among those are the “side effects” of medicines.
I generally shy away from medicines. Statistics about the long term side effects have motivated me to reduce the one maintenance drug that was prescribed many years ago.
Recently, I was advised to take the new shingles vaccine. The adverse side effects were minimized. Statistical risk is so small.
Two friends have taken the vaccine. One had a temporary reaction. Not surprising or unexpected. Annoying but tolerable. The other has suffered from long term side effects. Debilitating and inexplicable to doctors.
The overall statistics probably haven’t changed. But for me, they  have.  They’ve hit home.

Shingles should be avoided at all costs!

The list of side effects on commercials promoting various medications are often more frightening than the illnesses they are supposed to be helping. Just another reason I do everything I can to stay as healthy as possible. However, the subject of the new shingles vaccine came up with a friend who "loves vaccines", her words not mine. She had taken the old one and recently took the new one. Like the last time she had side effects, though they were temporary and tolerable. I didn't get the last one and haven't decided about this one. Like anything else, I'll research it before deciding to put it in my body.

Believing what you’re putting in your body is good for you is the most important thing.
However, you don’t get the flu from lack of what’s in the flu vaccine. Same for shingles. As Liz says, do all you can to support your immune system and overall health.
Never had either vaccine, never had either illness.

I have friends who have had shingles, it was horrific. The thought is frightening, however I had not heard of anyone with side effects that were long term. Hmmm

It is spreading on college campuses and outward. Do your research and (if satisfied) get the vaccine. It’s a horrible experience.
