Following Tradition

We spent Labor Day weekend in Philadelphia. My cousin’s daughter was married Sunday night so we spent the weekend with family. No better way to spend Labor Day weekend!!

A few weeks ago, I received a small package in the mail from the bride. In the package was a pen and a small note. On the note she wrote, “All my life I grew up seeing your parents’ signatures on my parents’ Ketubah [Jewish marriage contract]. Please do me the honor of continuing the tradition and sign mine.”

With tears in my eyes, I immediately called her and expressed my happiness and honor at doing so. I also placed the pen into the handbag I knew I would be bringing to the wedding to ensure that I had the pen she had gifted to me.

Following tradition makes me happy. What about you?

Awwww. That made me cry too! We have lots of traditions in my house starting with throwing frogs at my son when singing Dayanoo at Passover. That's not the same, right?
