It's Overwhelming

There has been a lot going on with me this summer. We have been in the process of raising our home due to the effects of Super Storm Sandy. During the construction we had been living in a rental house and just moved back home last week. The process of moving back home after living somewhere else for a year has been daunting

In addition, I am in the process of, hopefully, selling my office condo and reconfiguring my law firm. More about that in another blog.

Lastly I have had two cases, unexpectedly, proceed to trial this summer. Both trials required voluminous preparation.

I am not complaining, all of this activity is extremely beneficial to me. There have, however, been times during the summer when I have felt a bit overwhelmed by it all. While I am doing everything I need to do-- including writing a new “to do” list almost every day-- there have still been times when I have felt overly inundated.

What do you do when you're feeling overwhelmed?

I try daily to arrange my task list in order of importance. And then I try to check off one at a time. I do a daily because the importance of certain tasks always changes.

I can totally relate Rona. But when I feel overwhelmed, I try to just remember how blessed I am that as hard as I work, it is going towards Victoria, my and our children’s future. Make hay while the sun is shining! Also, my business tends to be very busy at different times of the year and very quiet at others. So I don’t feel guilty when, in the late fall and winter, I am quiet and I try and enjoy the time off.

Rona, I look forward to reading the responses to this blog ---it also hit very close to home. I too am in the process of re-configuring my office (I am losing my office manager and need to make decisions in that regard) while gratefully busy. So many different issues to address, hopefully all will be resolved within the next month or so.
I am going t try getting and taking a short walk, even around the building(thank you Dan)---and yes, when things get checked off the list it at least feels like movement in the right direction (thank you Fred).

I love crossing off the list. But then the list seems to grow the next day.

So not complaining about being busy!!! But I like your suggestion of keeping my eye on the prize.

We should get together and destress one another. . .

I'll go with Riva and breathe . But more importantly as Paul said , I put things in perspective . Overwhelmed is a state of mind . Stay in the moment . Don't project . The old one day at a time cliche' is more than just a 12 step slogan . Hydrate and eat healthy . No binge eating or white wine fever . Rest . Turn it off when your head hits the pillow . Meditate . Do not catastrophize. Use all your tools .

Lists, lists and more lists -- but overall remember, you've got this!
