Portions

Many years ago, we went out to dinner at a nice restaurant with some friends. Our server came by  and asked if we had any questions about the menu.
Our friend said, “I’ve heard that the portions here are very small.”
“Last time I’m ever going out to dinner with her” I said under my breath.
That scene was in my mind the other evening when we were speaking to the owner of a very nice restaurant that we frequent in the City.
He was talking about the challenge of getting portions just right. (That evening, I had finished my dinner — not a usual occurrence for me.)
“Don’t like to feel stuffed when I leave the table” he said.
“I don’t like to feel that I have to finish more than I’m comfortable eating” I offered.
I’ve never given so much thought to portions. But there’s something to getting it right.

I have found that ordering two appetizers usually is just perfect at many restaurants.

I regularly take food home from restaurants, especially if it's something that reheats well.

I have to start hanging out with you more, Ben. Portion control is always my diet problem. I don’t eat bad stuff, I just eat too much good stuff.

I think most places serve way too much. I would rather they lower the prices to match a smaller portion.
