It Happens Every Four Years

World Cup fever. Did you have it? Our home did. And anticipating Sunday’s 11:00 a.m. final I bought all of the ingredients for a huge breakfast so we could enjoy the final game over a family breakfast.

It has always amazed me how the rest of the world is transfixed and emotionally connected to soccer (football). The scenes of highly emotional fans reacting to their country’s games throughout the world were astounding. Yet here, in the United States, soccer does not enjoy nearly the same level of popularity coming in far behind football, baseball, basketball, and hockey.

That does seem to be changing though. This current generation of young adults grew up playing soccer and seem to enjoy watching it on the world stage. My step son is a summer associate in a large law firm and he told me that the World Cup games were on every day in a conference room during lunch where all of the associates were encouraged to watch.

Hopefully, in four years the American team will again reach the World Cup. Would you watch it then? Did you watch it now?

My daughter is a fan of MU; I've not connected much with soccer. We used to have a foosball table. I enjoyed that. Never really caught on with the game.

I watched practically every match, my most feverish year! It was much fun to root for my native land, Colombia, and then to root for France! (kind of glad they never played each other) My new Granddaughter is half French so it is a very exciting year for our family. We flew the French flag at our home Sat. & Sunday. Son-in-law's theory re. why soccer does not catch on in the US is the lack of TV commercials. US advertisers drive what we see on TV....makes a lot of sense. I'm looking forward to watching the Women next year in Paris :)
