In Search For The Perfect Lobster Roll

At a recent Gotham Long Island Dinner meeting, Nancy asked the following question, “What is your favorite thing to do on Long Island in the summer?” My response needed no thought since it is something my husband and I do every summer, “We search for the perfect lobster roll.”

My answer sparked such a lively conversation that I knew it would make a good subject for a blog. One of my favorite places to order a lobster roll was The Lobster Roll in Riverhead. But they changed owners recently and, to me, the quality of their lobster roll has declined. The former owners of The Lobster Roll still own the restaurant of the same name in Amagansett. I have never eaten at the restaurant in Amagansett -it was always too crowded whenever we have ventured towards it-but I have heard that their lobster roll is of the highest quality.

Locally, Jordan’s Lobster has a great lobster roll. When I’m at Jordan’s, however, I cannot bypass ordering one of their incredible lobsters in favor of the lobster roll.

Last week, our quest took us to Claudio’s in Greenport. They have a pretty good lobster roll. Where would you suggest we go to next?

You visited Greenport too late to catch Uncle Peter's bookstore. Oh Well.

Joanne loves Amagansett roll, but too much bread for me.

Get out of Long Island! Go to Pearl's on Cornelia Street (http://www.pearloysterbar.com/) Some of the best food you'll ever eat...
