Loss and Hope

Categories

These have been bumpy days for me recently.

My "second mother" growing up, passed away. She frightened me when I first met her because she was "no nonsense" and I was all nonsense. As I matured she became a valuable asset and friend in my life. Known her about 50 years.

A couple I love dearly in Issaquah, WA are getting divorced. Two 8 year old twins. I have a picture of them from a year ago, visiting NYC and smiling broadly together. I knew them long before they had children...

A teacher I know in Tampa, FL has been diagnosed with cancer, already in the lymph nodes. Not even 40 years old.

And children and babies are being separated from their parents in the name of the United States government.

Hope through cracks

I'm finding it hard to hold on to hope.

But Gloria, my 2nd mom, has 7 wonderful children who are all doing their best to spread the love they were given growing up.

My friends separating are focusing on doing whatever they can for their darling twins and they are sane people so they will all have support.

Another teacher I know, was diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer exactly a year ago, and now is thriving. They can't find a trace of it.

And, last night, I got to see my talented wife perform in a show, doing what she loves.

I am hopeful for the children and babies at the border, that enough people will get us back to sanity in this. I know positive things are happening as I write this.

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope. - Martin Luther King, Jr.

i Love that quote! There are speed bumps and potholes, yet the road continues and so do you.

Cayce, thank you---your blog could not have been more perfectly timed. I am so sorry for your loss, however I know, from experience, Gloria will be with you every day.

I am sorry for your loss. But I do love that quote and will use it. Thank you for that.

Always prefer to accentuate positive. I have songs by Poco, Derek & the Dominos and The Byrds along those lines.

Yes yes! Absolutely more wonderful than horrible in this world of ours, just sometimes it piles up and takes a moment to get out from under.
