Happy Father’s Day!

I already enjoyed a stellar card from Marisa – she always finds a card with the right sentiments and message --earlier this past week and mom’s on Friday.

Card from Marisa

Sometimes we barbecue; mostlyhere, albeit as detailed in this space last year I caught a break and our nephew hosted.

No BBQ this year.

Unfortunately an institution announced plans to close and Shelly suggested we get there with her dad.

It’s my fave deli.

Heck when a friend and former client served in Congress, a highlight for his colleagues and many others was hisannual kosherdeli fundraiser in D.C. catered by Ben’s Best in Rego Park. Yes all the way from Rego Park to Washington. Indeed, Diners, Drive-ins & Dives visited Ben’s Best in October 2010 (I notice I retired the tie I wore some time ago.); the segment still runs.

Whenever we cater kosher, we rely on Ben’s Best. News reports of a business drop off focuses on what owner Jay Parker blames: the removal of parking spaces outside this Queens Boulevard eatery.

Sometimes a policy aimed at one end introduces consequences perhaps unforeseen. Might there have been a better way? Indeed I notice resistance and opposition in Forest Hills that perhaps should have emerged in Rego Park.

I always believe in engaging affecting community members, including business folks, to make sure impacts cause no unnecessary upheaval. Perhaps something fell short here.

When Shelly suggested we take her dad I replied we also need to plan to take some additional fare home.

And keeping with tradition, I offer this wonderful song for this special day by current Poco bassist and vocalist Jack Sundrud.

Again, Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and thank you to the moms!

So many delis are closing. It's sort of sad. But happy Father's Day my friend.

It was but they ran out of pastrami (thankfully I wanted my usual Corned Beef) and Knishes. I believe they served double or more the # of usual dinners. We took home Corned Beef, Derma and Kasha Varnishes. Father in Law took home derma and 2 hot dogs. And my team even won (for the 2d time in a row!).

Very sad but the eatery was real busy this eve. Owner Jay Parker seemed happy. Thx for the wishes. Please pass on mine to Phil.

Happy Father’s Day. Beautiful card. And I will definitely call on Bens Best next time we need a kosher order.
