The routine

My morning routine hasn't varied for quite awhile and I noticed this morning that, sometimes, I go about it without thinking...like today :)

  • Wake up (which is a good thing)
  • Check in with my phone (not a good thing)
  • Roll out of bed...literally
  • Stand up and say to myself "Another day in paradise!"
  • Take care of some personal issues
  • Go downstairs, grab some fruit and make myself a couple of eggs
  • Crack my laptop and check email (and on Saturdays, write a blog:)
  • Take a shower, get dressed and experience whatever the day brings

I might switch out the eggs for some lox and on days with breakfast appointments, I skip that part. Other than that I move through this ritual seemingly mindless.

I wonder how many of you have some sort of routine in the morning. I'm thinking I should change it to shake things up. Suggestions are welcome :-)

Usually add watching NY1 news most mornings. As to mail I am using my iPad more and more including to post this comment; it means I can go outside right away in the morning without setting up my Mac. When no morning meetings, franjelica 2/3 Café/ 1/3 decaf coffee an important part. Banana, grapefruit sliced up bite site, and cereal usual home routine. Sometimes orange subs in for the grapefruit.

I take out the dogs and in summer tinker in garden before I get into the shower and start the day as long as I don’t have an 8 AM appointment. I’d like to know how other people do their morning things in a short period of time it appears that no matter what I do it takes me two hours —so forces me to get up early.

I use the bathroom regularly at 6:30 AM. Unfortunately I don’t wake up until 7

I do the same as you, wake up and immediately check my phone before I get out of bed. Everything I read about stress management etc. says that is a terrible habit. I think Cayce has it right with meditation first. I am definitely going to try to change the immediate phone habit.

About 20 mins. I have some Oprah/Deepak mp3s that are GREAT, if you like the 2 of them. Makes it very easy. Happy to send you the link.

Please keep your phone away from your bed! i use it as an alarm but I have to get up to turn it off. You don't want to sleep next to the phone.

Switching out the eggs for some Lox is a start . I call routines Habit Patterns . Before I retired I had habit patterns that took over for different scenarios . Was it a game day ? Was I flying across the pond that night ? Or just completing the Honey Do list . Everyday started with a swim . A long ocean swim or laps in the pool . Once the cardio is done the world is my oyster . Now that I'm retired the cell phone stays plugged in somewhere until after lunch . The newspaper stays unread . The TV stays off . Preferably my mouth stays closed . After lunch it's Katy Bar the Door . It's about that time that the dogs come back through the woods . One day they brought back the head of a freshly killed deer . Stuff like that . The redwood Forrest and the creatures within are my morning entertainment . No ritualistic behavior . Just letting it happen . Like the animals around me . I'll tend to the Hops that we grow to make our home brew . Maybe text Fred and see if I can get his goat . No routine . The first 70 years were enough . Now it's my turn to flip off as many people as I can .

LOL...how's that going? :-) I like that you don't see, read or hear anything till after lunch.

As a kid I was out the door with a can of coke!(I know, I know.but that was then, who knew?). Now, until I came out to LA I did not check my phone or my email before breakfast: fat free youghurt and berrises, or cereal and berries or eggs (unless I have a breakfast appt. then it is a vegetable omlette. As I said earlier since NY is thrwee hours aheas of me I mdo check my three email addresses.

I'd prefer not to engage 24/7 but I'd be pushing the envelope . The dogs keep me sane!

I like to do everything Derf does . Maybe then Joanne will like me again !
