Home Delivery

Home delivery of newspapers is not a concept of the past in our home. We still get home delivery of three newspapers. I have often thought about this as unnecessary and recently spoke to my brother-in-law about it. He also gets three newspapers - a local paper, the Times and the WSJ.
Perhaps it’s an effort to get balance, perhaps just holding on to tradition, or, perhaps, a lingering resistance (albeit, unsuccessful) to the onslaught of the alerts and notifications of cyber news.
And it’s still nice to hold a newspaper and remember the intricate folding technique that allows you to read the oversized paper on the subway or railroad without invading others’ space.

I am so much in harmony with you on this!

Yes! We get the Times and it’s a true luxury. Never read it on the train, though...

Cyberdom can never replace the crisp, clean smell of fresh newsprint or that sense of intimacy as you engage the rigor of another consciousness. Who wants to date Alexa?

The first thing i do with the morning Times is read the obituary to make sure that my name isn't there and then i do the crossword, except for Friday and Saturday when i just read the obit.

We still have a local paper and the NY Times delivered, albeit only on the weekend. When I realized at the end of the week that I was throwing away newspapers that I actually did not have time to thoroughly read---it was the huge bags of newspapers being thrown away that led to the decision of "weekends only". The rest of the week I do rely on cyber news.

I prefer home delivery but in my case it arrives later so I went to weekend only which gives me on line access and ability to read Prince Valiant in News' Sunday comics.
