The Sounds of Summer

The wretchedly rainy weather suggests otherwise. Usually the warm weather we usually find – albeit not this year – signals wondrous opportunities to experience live music, often outside. So in addition to looking forward to attending some baseball games, discussions before, between and after my weekly weekend and eve basketball games involves upcoming concerts; we call them “shows.”

Many performers take to the road during the summer.

Several of my friends and I scan the concert listings, including free shows, in and around New York City. Often, by Memorial Day weekend, many of the listing of the free shows get disclosed. Already, one free show found it way on my list.

We continue to discuss what shows to attend. It certainly helps when the current weather deters hanging outside.

In the next few months, I expect to experience and enjoy shows featuring Dead & Co., Eagles, Glenn Tilbrook, Jeff Beck, John Fogerty, Nail Horan, Paul Rogers, Peter Frampton, Poco, Richie Furay, Steve Miller and ZZ Top. Others also remain in play.

Any concert plans of your own to share (or just suggest)?   Please put the comments section to good use.

We go to lots of concerts both original artists and tribute bands For me the key is to get really good seats upfront and get really great pictures

Proximity matters less; tribute bands are a “game-day” decision, much like we are going out, let’s decide what to do. I prefer the actual while they can perform and they still can.

I miss going to "shows". I used to catch a few free ones at Coney Island. Seems time and family responsibilities have made it hard. But my soon to be eleven year old is very much into rock now, so...just maybe we can squeeze one in.

We are seeing Eric Clapton at MSG this fall and have tickets to see Elton John's last concert next year. We saw Billy Joel the year before last, and am tempted to get tickets again as he puts on such a great show! One of my favorites! I haven't heard of too many free concerts... I remember the Concerts in Central Park years ago... The recently renovated Forest Hills stadium has some great headliners-- I saw James Taylor there and he put on a great concert in a more intimate venue...

My very first show was at Forest Hills. There are many free show. One I definitely plan to attend.
