Social Media for Business

I have blogged many times over the years about social media, Facebook and related medium. Most of those posts have been about personal social media use.

Here is my question for today.

Do you use social media to help promote your business? If so, what have you found to be effective or ineffective? Inquiring minds want to know.

As you know, I use Facebook to promote myself. And I find it effective.

I use it for my business (FB, LI, IG, TW) and select different channels for clients. The process for choosing and implementing effective social media boils down to three steps.

First, learn about your target market...what do they use? If you don't know, then find out otherwise you'll be wasting money.

Second, you'll need a solid strategy in approaching social media or it won't work.

Third, your content needs to be consistent with your brand and built on interactions not transactions.

There's so much more but if you follow these basic steps, you will (most likely) be successful.

Use both as branding, promoting clients and issues but circles back to branding.

Thanks Fred, and yes, I will hold an "open mike" session Wednesday evening as a guest presenter at Gotham's Executive Group. I would be very pleased to take all your LinkedIn questions, and in doing so, cover this very important topic of social media branding on LinkedIn for my fellow Gothamites.

I only use LinkedIn. What I've found is that by giving people a glimpse into my character through a business incident/story gets the most views and likes/comments.

As a ghostwriter I find LinkedIn to be helpful since many professionals are on there and some want to discuss the possibility of a book. It's also a good place to link to your own blogs.

Yes, kind of a no brainer for me, though I've got a lot to learn.
