I was distressed in reading the reports yesterday that the top trending video on YouTube was a conspiracy theory that Florida school shooting survivor, and one of the organizers of the "March for Our Lives", David Hogg, is an actor; more precisely, a "crisis actor" -- someone who is "paid to pretend to have been affected by a tragedy for political purposes."
Other social media platforms are likewise inundated with posts of conspiracy theories.
With the overwhelming reporting of "meddling", we should be more aware and sensitive to what's going on. Social media, the platforms, and those who are "on" them, are, or should be, well-aware of the unreliability of "information" posted.
One can only speculate as to the sources. Perhaps there is, or will be, push-back.
The platforms profess that they are making efforts to stop this… and yet, it continues. Perhaps nothing can be done.
P.S. I was somewhat heartened later in the day to learn that some of the postings had been taken down.

I am a resident of Parkland. Both of my children are recent graduates of MSD. The school is located at the bottom border of our community, and I have to pass it daily. We know many of the families affected, including my neighbors who lost their 14-year-old daughter.
That said, these disinformation mongers are so much more a part of the problem than the solution. It is almost inhuman how they are attacking VICTIMS of this last killing spree. These kids, amazing in their resilience, clarity and determination, not to mention articulate in their expression of concern and requests to have THEIR government protect the children of this nation are galvanizing a movement of teenagers, collage students and open-minded individuals across the country. It seems that the youth of this country, unsullied by party politics, have a clearer vision of the need to action than the majority of adults mired in their party lines mentality.
After watching the popular uprising in multiple states of High Schoolers walking out, and/or showing solidarity to these survivors it is not surprising that close-minded people are beginning to get nervous. These kids mean business and, like the peace movement in the 60’s and 70’s, are not afraid to take a stand and act on it. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them burning their Student IDs the way they used to burn their draft cards in protest.
Interesting how PAID political pundits are accusing these children of being “crisis actors”.
These children, our youth, are not being USED to make policy changes by any party, they are advocating for THEIR government to rise above political boundaries and make changes what will benefit us all.
Change is NOT a conspiracy, it is evolution. As business people it is incumbent on us to constantly change our attitudes and positions, sales and marketing tactics to reach the same or new audiences. If we don't grow, we die. Why then is this not acceptable, especially in cases so clearly laid out like this event, to bring that same determination to our thinking on progressive government? What is the purpose of diffusing a common-sense approach to, in this case, gun laws that allow 2nd amendment rights, but realize that the need for devices that have NO practical value (hunting, practice, protection) off the streets of this nation?
How can we allow OUR YOUTH, the new leaders of this Nation, to face this type of abuse in furthering the most reasonable of causes? We, as parents and hopefully reasonable souls need to back this movement of our children, support them however we can, and not only rail against these abuses with our voices, and votes, but take immediate action to protect the integrity of our children’s dream.

Unfortunately there is a tremendous amount of time and resources being devoted to create a more divided country. It is people with a clear goal that are using social media against us. Democracy cannot withstand divisiveness without discourse and understanding.
Yes, we have differing opinions, differing ideologies, different religions and different political affiliations. These differences are what created this fantastic pluralistic country we live in.
We must resist the urge to blatantly believe information that is clearly divisive. Chances are it was created for just that purpose and without a spec of truth.
