A Twin Experience

I had the experience the other evening of meeting someone new but having the gnawing feeling that we had met before. I was certain that we had never met, but something just felt too familiar. Maybe it was the tone of a voice, a look, I’m not sure.

 

 

When it all came clear to me, I realized that this new acquaintance was the spitting image of another attorney that I know. It was not him – I know, and knew, that I had never met this gentlemen before.

 

 

But there was this odd feeling like we had.

They say we all have body doubles. I met mine in 1984 at the LA Olympics. He was from Algeria.

I had a double in high school. We looked so much alike that friends and teachers would stop us in the hallway, thinking we were the other person. He was one of the stars of the hockey team, and I would often come watch. At one game I got into an “altercation” with some of the fans of the other team. They told me they would be waiting outside for me after the game ... so I got out while the getting was good. But when my double came out, they jumped him and beat him up. I felt awful, but my friend felt worse. He wasn’t very friendly with me after that!
