The new armies

Categories
Tech News

The Syrian Electronic Army (S.E.A.) successfully attacked the NY Times yesteday. This is the same "army" that hacked the Twitter account of the A.P. and drove the stock market down by Tweeting that there were explosions at the White House.

We have a cyber army and so does Russia, England, Israel, Iran, Pakistan and of course China. Just about every country has one...even Bangladesh.

Anyone can start one. Just get together some smart, computer saavy people, create a name and bingo...off you go! Maybe we should start our own. What shall we call it...The Cyber Tribe? Gotham's Hackarama?

Our site gets assaulted every day by spammers/hackers from India and China so I already have a list of people who we can mount a campaign against. Who's with me?

The only ones worse than hackers are takers!

On a slightly related tangent, to preemptively thwart ludditic fears of identity theft: remember, it's a heck of a lot easier for your gas attendant or waiter to photocopy your credit card & Google your address, than it is for any hacker to steal your stuff online. Hackers really only want access to Gotham and other servers to launch anonymized attacks on 'real' targets. Fears of being hit by cars on the street are legit & we ought to take precaution. Likewise, the benefits of sharing knowledge online far outweigh any negatives... as Fredslist & this site exemplify. And final tangential response: benevolent hackers figure out innovative ways through systems thinking (whole is greater than parts) or thru deconstruction (not to be confused with destruction, which looks similar). Hence the new business 2.1 term: growth hackers. Chew on all this with breakfast!

hackers and takers remain one and the same for what they do!

But why just make things end with tech per se.

Many ways exist to cause appropriate pain and I see no reason to limit one to so-called cyber means when appropriate interventions need to occur.

You don't want me. With my lack of computer savy, we would lose the war. :)

Perhaps this is a reason to be conecerned about drones? Imagine if one of our drones were seized by hackers and used to attack another country.
