Shark Tank

I am a big fan of “Shark Tank.”  I love seeing the different products and hearing the sharks’ reactions to them. But I think what I enjoy the most is hearing the advice the sharks give the entrepreneurs.  If you listen closely, sometimes it’s almost a master’s class in running a business.

Recently, Mark Cuban said something that really resonated with me, “Running a business is almost like taking care of a small child. You have to always nurture it and constantly watch it.”  While I might be an attorney, as a partner in my firm, I am also a business owner. As a business owner,  I know his words to be true. There is so much I have to be aware of as my firm as a  business, my staff, changes in rules affecting the staff (thanks Nancy!!) the receivables and payables, where the referrals are coming from etc.

Many of us in Gotham are essentially business owners. What words of advice would you give a business owner just starting out?

Marketing is key. You can have the greatest product/service on earth or be the smartest professional anywhere. If nobody knows about it or you, you won’t make any money and your business will fail.

Also, you need to be able to adapt easily and quickly to change.

Perserverance also is key!

So many things to keep track of, but you do a great job. [And you are most welcome!]
