A Star

I was going to blog about our star -- the Sun -- and the eclipse. Where was I, where were you? But there was another "star" on Monday worth noting. At a concert at Madison Square Garden on Monday night, Billy Joel wore a yellow Star of David (actually, he wore two -- one in front and one on his back) reminiscent of the Stars of David that Jews were forced to wear by the Nazis during the Holocaust. I commend Billy Joel. As a child, when I saw pictures and heard stories from my Mother about her wearing a Star of David in the Lodz Ghetto, I questioned why and one question led to the next and the next. And I wondered.... What if everyone wore a Star of David?

When everyone stands up no one can be singled out...

Thank you for "blogging" about this. Standing up against hatred and bigotry will always be important for us all. During the Holocaust there were some countries where the citizens all did don the Star of David.

I've always known that Billy Joel was an amazing musician and storyteller with the heart of a poet; now he's shown the world that he also has the courage and strength to stand up against the darkness.

Thank you for posting this, Ben. I'm so glad to know that Billy Joel did that.
