Summer in the City

Categories
Holidays

We all know the benefits of a reverse commute, well a creative variation is heading into the city from Long Island and away from the beaches and Hamptons in Summertime.

It is a little known fact that the city is "dead" in the long hot Summer-especially on Holiday weekends when residents escape to beat the heat.

Consequently, Joanne and I enjoyed 2 World Class museums over the 5 day July 4th weekend.  We visited the Guggenheim and Whitney.  There were no lines or crowds, just inspiring Art.  It was so enjoyable and enriching.

Please keep this great secret within the Tribe!

The best is living here year round. I remember being at a Broadway show one July 4 where they literally begged us to come sit in the orchestra.

We love coming to the city on weekends in the summer--parking on the street is such a breeze. And so much to do and see off the beaten touristy path this summer! Off Bwy shows (especially "Cost of Living" at MTC now, a must-see!), High Line always changing (last weekend), the 150 yr bday celebration of Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit at MOMA, I can go on and on.

such a great Idea. I've been following you on facebook with your museum journeys.
Tons of amazing stuff to see and do in this great city of ours. And so happy for you - that you don't go through Penn Station to get home...in this Summer of Hell - according to our governor :(

Those of is who live in the city have been living that secret for years. Parks museums theaters restaurants everything is easier and summer weekends in the city are our version of The Hamptons.

Hot Town Summer in the City! I used to fly night cargo on the old 707 out of SFO with a 72 hour layover in Manhattan from early Friday A.M . Til early Monday AM . That was my summer go to trip. We stayed in midtown . I had the city to myself all expenses paid . Carnegie Deli , Luger's , Little Italy ! I ran into Chuck Shumer who told me about Ping's in Chinatown . Food at 4 AM ! I could do all this and still get a day at West End 2 at Jones Beach . Due to the 3 hour time change a Pastrami on rye at the Carnegie at 2AM . I would eat my way through the city . Night Cargo was a dream . No passengers or flight attendants . Just a big 707 with no rules loaded with freight . I believe I was on a Cannoli diet for awhile ! I could take the # 4 up to 161st and River Ave and watch Thurman Munson catch . Ballantine Ale . BEEAH HEEAH GETCHA ICE COLD BEEAH !!

After living in the city for several years, I appreciate how quiet it can be in the summer. My wife and I drove down from Westchester last weekend, no trouble parking, spent the day in Central park and had no wait at a nice upper West side eatery. I know the secret.

My wife who is off while school is out asks my schedule for when I am in Manhattan so she can do museums and other cool stuff while I work. I still miss the great summer shows that The Donald killed when he "renovated" Wolman Rink; those really were the days and nothing really replaced them.

Susan and I didn't have the time to wait on lines at the Museum of Natural History so we walked across the street and said - Why Not?
The New-York Historical Society is an American history museum and library located in New York City at the corner of 77th Street and Central Park West in Manhattan, founded in 1804 as New York's first museum. This museum is about New York City as a city, it's relationship to the State and to the Country. Take the one hour guided tour - wonderful.

Phil and I try to take Thursdays off in the summer. We usually spend one or two in the city. Last summer we took an insiders tour of Grand Central. It was great!!. This Thursday is going to be our city day. We're looking at food tours of different neighborhoods.
