Consider This Research

In a few weeks, I am leading a meeting where the topic is as follows – “what new technology, software or hardware, are you using that has made life – business or personal – just a little bit easier.”

I know I am partial to certain technology. In fact, just today I had monitor envy as I admired my partner’s gi-normous (is that a word?) screen. I think I will splurge on one for myself. And, yes I have my favorite Ipad apps. I really like Noteshelf which acts just like a notebook but just a little more organized.

Consider this blog research for me, if you don’t mind. Can you answer the question and share some fodder for my upcoming meeting?

If it is my screen you admired I must warn you that it has its quirks.

Our office has one of those systems where you can log on from home and it's like you get all of the information on the computer that you would get at the office. That is very helpful to be able to get caught up on some things over the weekend or in the evening from home.

Completely agree. Great technology. Will put that on my list!

I actually have two monitors at work. Initially I fought against it, but, when I am researching and writing at the same time, it's a tremendous help. The document I'm writing comes up on the left monitor and Westlaw comes up on the right. It really is phenomenal.
And, the second monitor provides additional room for all the little post-its I put up on my monitors to remind me of certain things so that I don't forget. After age fifty, for this purpose alone, the two monitors make my life much easier. ! :)

Research shows that dual monitors increase productivity by 30%. I have 2 - in on normal (landscape) and the other in vertical (portrait) orientation - makes things MUCH easier.

As for favorite tech - hands down, it's my firewall+managed antivirus. We deploy these at client sites and use them at home - being able to surf the web with a trusty tools that keeps out the bad stuff is very comforting.

Second favorite is Outlook 2013 - VERY, VERY nice. Saves me hours of wasted time.

A Techie like you should be able to log on the web site and not appear as anonymous

I'll be at that upcoming meeting, Nance, and this survey was a good idea (not even close to cheating...). ;^) And like Rona, after resisting it for a while, I switched last year to using two monitors, and would never go back to a measly one monitor set-up. Other tech that helps my law practice includes: Fujitsu Scansnap scanner; QuickBooksPro financial software; a RAID array of hard drives in my computer for redundancy, not to mention dual alternating external hard drives and online/cloud backup as well; Acronis imaging backup software; Adobe Acrobat software; CCleaner disk cleaner; Dropbox; Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software; Remote Desktop; Symantec Norton protection; etc.

I have two 27 inch monitors (one is my desktop computer) and Fios in my home office (read, my desk in my apartment) and LOVE IT! It's amazing how much more I can get done when I have everything available. Of course, now going into the office or working on my laptop when I travel is pure torture.

I love when I can use my external monitor with my MacBook. I always have multiple windows - browser/ email/ word processing and sometimes more (web editor; publishing) open. It mirrors how I spread things on my desk in those olden days. My iPhone really can save the day and I still have much to learn but just having my calendar and contacts, ability to dispose of mail (that includes responding); reviewing material on the web; and keeping notes that i can later process on my Mac makes me productive. I can also keep notes that I need for meetings in the notes section of my calendar and other notes in the Notes app. I am setup with various cloud and HD backups as well.
