New Thinking

Albert Einstein, Unthinking, Authority

"Our situation is not comparable to anything in the past. It is impossible, therefore, to apply methods and measures which at an earlier age might have been sufficient. We must revolutionize our thinking, revolutionize our actions, and must have the courage to revolutionize relations among nations of the world.

Cliches of yesterday will no longer do today, and will, no doubt, be hopelessly out of date tomorrow." -Einstein (1948) " A Message to Intellectuals"

I am still actively working on Mitch's earlier blog about changing how we speak and listen to one another.

Sit Down

Learning to let go of the "cliches of yesterday" is one of the ways.

Slowing down to hear what people are really trying to communicate is another.

And, always, kindness.

How are you able to hear those that disagree with you?

Ah, listening, that elusive attribute! If only I could learn...

I find many lawyers make mistakes when they don't listen. They are generally thinking about what they want to say next that they miss important information. It's an important skill.

I've shared in others places how important it remains to know what the "other side" thinks and why?

YES.
"Though you try, you can't hide
All the things you really feel, this time decide
That you will open up, let it in
There's no shame in sharing love you keep within
So jump on in
Head over heels, and fall right in.."

Actually hearing, such an important skill. Wonderful comments and thoughts from everyone. Although I don't always have the time to "weigh in", or at times I don't believe I have anything additional to actually add that hasn't been said, I find the recent blogs enjoyable to read and, even better, have actually learned something new---always a good thing.

Wow, this is a hard one...I tend to listen because I care about the person, not necessarily their views. The longer I;ve remained silent, I watch people digress or try to back up their points. It's liberating (and sometimes really boring) :)
