Patriarch

As I approach the 3/4 pole I must admit that I am now a/the Patriarch.  A fancy word for "Old Fart".

It snuck up on me as I kept on keeping on and my hair silvered.  "Mr. Klein" was my dad and then, suddenly, it was me.  All of a sudden, seats are offered to me on the subway.

Don't get me wrong, I welcome Senior Citizen discounts and I do enjoy being proofed.

I'm told I look good, but I am well aware that there are three stages in life: Youth, Middle Age and "You Look Good!"

I aspire to live to be 100 and I work at it.

I'm proud of what I've achieved and respect for my vintage is not unwelcome.

Don't cut yourself short! You have many furlongs to go! Your health is the envy of many a younger man.

You will to AT LEAST 100 - Because you work at it ......but more importantly - you deserve it:)

Age is an attitude, not a number. So you're approaching what . . . 26?? (At least in a golf cart!!) ;))

Funny how it creeps up on you. Suddenly, you look in the mirror and there's a "double take".

Getting old isn't the issue...being old is.

I appreciate all the sage comments above. I remember the first time I was called "Maam" instead of "Miss" and am also offered seats on a subway. Ugh ~ I'm too young for all of that!

An old fart is far more interesting and memorable than a new one. Just like a fine wine, better with age. Wishing I can be that as time passes.

I am a fellow Patriarch ! The commanding officer of my tribe of a wife , 7 kids , 7 grandkids , 3 dogs, 3 cats, 5 goats and 30 chickens . My authority is challenged constantly by the Matriarch. A huge force to contend with . Nobody calls me Mr. Hollander yet or ever . Everyone calls me Neil including my kids AND the locals. Oscar Wilde said " The tragedy of old age is not that one is old but that one is young." And yes Fred it does sneak up on you unless it clobbers you like a middle linebacker or an 18 wheeler which in my case is putting it gently. But like I said last week or as I was told in intensive care by the Doctor ....uh oh an aberration .... Mr Hollander he said..... Thanks to your excellent physical condition you are gonna get through this ! So stay in good shape fellow Matriarchs and Patriarchs so that if and when fate taps you on the shoulder you'll be tough enough to turn around say "Is that all you got ?"

Just yesterday I was told that I "look good." I am following right behind you.
