How Do We make It Stop?

Categories

On Saturday morning, I had thought of a fun blog idea. Running out to an appointment, I decided to set the idea aside and write the blog on Sunday morning.

Then, on Saturday, the explosions in Chelsea and New Jersey occurred as well as the stabbings in Minnesota. And, with that, thoughts of a fun blog flew out of my head.  And, I immediately went into what I have begun to call “crisis mode,” mentally going through in my head where my loved ones might be to ensure they were safe and turning on CNN for update sas to what was happening.

My emotional response to all of these incidents, Paris, Belgium, San Bernardino, Orlando, has been mostly the same: sadness. Each time, I wonder what sort of world we are passing onto our children and grandchildren?

And I wonder, how do we as people, make this a better world for our children?  I don’t ask this as a political question but, rather, as a human question. Today I am not thinking about my support for one candidate over the other but just wondering how do we all come together as people to just stop the bloodshed?

Perhaps next week I will write a fun blog. I hope so.

You start by being vigilant about the surroundings you know best and those you frequent.

Traveling home from the city last night, we hit a dead stop on the Belt near the Verrazano Bridge (not unusual)--John lives right there, I remarked....I'm glad I'm not alone--not sure why I said that--as we pulled closer to the police cars under the bridge I noticed a man dressed in white on the floor in zip ties...and not to far from him a woman dressed in Orange--handcuffed as well. We didn't know what to think...
I dropped John off in Sheepshead Bay to retrieve his car...the amount of police presence there and on the Belt was more than I have ever seen...

It wasn't until I was home that when I logged onto FB and saw a message from a councilman in Bay Ridge, explaining what we witnessed earlier....how do I react?,my gut reaction=-fear.

Corey, I agree---it's very difficult when you cannot control your surroundings..even the ones where you are the most comfortable.

Kindness to each other and kindness to strangers, especially strangers. Each act of kindness creates ripples.

Kindness, vigilance and prayers for a better world. Add relief that another extremist and his buddies were quickly captured! Political morass aside, this is a troubling world for our kids & grand kids. Too sad...I pray for a happy blog....

While I don't have an answer for the very important question you pose, I agree wholeheartedly that it must. And I am convinced it starts with the children. Our children must learn tolerance and respect for others and we must lead them by example.

Hi Rona ! I'll try and be succinct . I feel your pain. The FBI has been handcuffed by the PC police which has rendered them impotent . Domestically we have been disarmed and internationally we have gone blind . 6 years ago Egypt and Libya were a huge source of intelligence and then the US PARTNERED WITH RADICAL JIHADISTS and the Muslim Brotherhood to overthrow Mubarak in Egypt and Gadaffi in Libya and at that point we lost our most crucial Intel network in the Middle East as well as alienating other rich sources of Intel . So PC pressure takes us out of the domestic scene and bad choices render us blind where we desperately need eyes and ears. So , sorry to ramble . What to do ? We are fighting an ideology now and not a regime . We let it get too far . From the line in the sand that Syria crossed without consequences to the infection called social media . I think this ain't going away and I agree with Corey . Stay out of harm's way by watching your six at all times and changing the way you go about your business . It used to be that we would preach GO ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS . That no longer applies . Minimize your exposure . As long as our administration continues to call this a narrative battle for God's sake......it's not going away any time soon . It's reality . Lifestyle cautions are in order !
